The ExeDesk Restriction Manager allows IT administrators to disable some functionality of the ExeDesk.  It is possible to disable almost all menu commands (such as "Exit" menu command), settings and changes on selected desktops.  This utility are intended for IT administrators to enabled them to keep unified ExeDesk settings on all client workstations.

Installation:

  1. Download the erm.zip file from here.
  2. When downloaded, unzip the erm.zip file to a folder of your choice. The erm.zip contains only one file - erm.exe.
  3. You are done, the erm.exe can be executed.

Using:

  1. Logon to a workstation as an administrator (a user with administrator rights).
  2. Start erm.exe.
  3. In the ERM window, use "Select..." button to select the ExeDesk desktop configuration file (.d_d file) the restrictions will be applied to.  (This is "C:\Documents and Settings\UserName\My Documents\ExeDeskDefaultDeskConfig.d_d" by default.)
  4. In the tree shown, check/uncheck required restrictions and click "Apply" button.
  5. If the ExeDesk is running with the .d_d file loaded, then the restrictions are immediately applied and can be tested.
  6. Exit ERM when all required restrictions are set.
  7. Logoff and logon again as a regular user without administrator rights.

Note: A user that doesn't have administrator rights can not change the restrictions using the ERM tool.  The user has to have administration rights (has to be logged in to the workstation as an administrator) in order to be able to change restrictions using ERM.
