Restriction Manager - How to use it? |
The ExeDesk Restriction Manager allows
IT administrators to disable some functionality of
the ExeDesk. It is possible to disable
almost all menu commands (such as "Exit" menu
command), settings and changes on selected
desktops. This utility are intended for IT
administrators to enabled them to keep unified
ExeDesk settings on all client workstations.
Installation:

Download the erm.zip file from
here.

When downloaded, unzip the erm.zip file to a
folder of your choice. The erm.zip contains
only one file - erm.exe.

You are done, the erm.exe can be executed.
Using:
-
Logon to a workstation as an administrator
(a user with administrator rights).

Start erm.exe.

In the ERM window, use "Select..." button to
select the ExeDesk desktop configuration
file (.d_d file) the restrictions will be
applied to. (This is "C:\Documents and
Settings\UserName\My
Documents\ExeDeskDefaultDeskConfig.d_d" by
default.)

In the tree shown, check/uncheck required
restrictions and click "Apply" button.

If the ExeDesk is running with the .d_d file
loaded, then the restrictions are
immediately applied and can be tested.

Exit ERM when all required restrictions are
set.
-
Logoff and logon again as a regular user
without administrator rights.
Note: A user that doesn't have administrator
rights can not change the restrictions using the ERM
tool. The user has to have administration
rights (has to be logged in to the workstation as an
administrator) in order to be able to change
restrictions using ERM.
